LAFF: Bird Walk and Volunteer Work Day (Thursday, April 23, 2026)

Leaf and Feather Farms:
Bird Walk and Volunteer Work Day

Come out and lend a hand. We will start off with a bird walk from 9am to 11am and then we'll get to work removing invasive plants, doing trail maintenance, and any other project that needs doing.

Dress appropriately for nature walking and outside working with layers and closed-toed shoes. We will have some safety equipment and tools available, but if you are thinking of joining us and can bring your own work gloves, eye protection, clippers, etc. please do!

We will provide a sandwich and sides lunch as an additional thank you for your efforts. Vegan and gluten free options will be available.

We hope to see you at LAFF on one or both of these days!

Magee Marsh, Howard Marsh, & Ottawa NWR (Tuesday, May 12, 2026)

Jackson Audubon Society will be organizing a carpool for a daylong trip to the Midwest's best destination for spring warbler viewing. We will tour Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Howard Marsh, Ottawa NWR, and other areas that may be active for migrants. The JAS carpool leaves at 6 AM and the estimated return is 5 PM. Bring water, lunch, & a lawn chair.

Birdathon at Phyllis Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary

May 20th - For 24 hours!

The Jackson Audubon Society is raising a team of birders to participate in the Michigan Audubon Birdathon. This will be a 24-hour marathon birding event held at Haehnle Sanctuary. The goal is to count as many species on the property in one day as possible. Birders obtain sponsors for the JAS team. This fundraising event of Michigan Audubon will pass along a portion of the proceeds to Jackson Audubon Society. This is open to birders of all experience.

Monthly workdays continue in support of habitat restoration and general maintenance. These are scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of each month. Chad Machinski from Michigan Audubon and Steve Jerant from Jackson Audubon will lead the work. Volunteers can assist from 1:00 to 4 PM. Tools and materials are provided. Wear sturdy work boots.

Dale Kennedy, Professor Emerita, Biology Department at Albion College, presents, “Wren Talk.” Dale and Doug have done research on the house wren for 32 years. Dale will discuss various aspects of the wren vocalizations, including male songs, feeding calls from the young wrens in the nest even scolding sounds and responses.

Jackson Audubon Society will have its annual membership meeting preceding the program.

Bird Nerd Trivia

“Bird Nerd Trivia”—Host and trivia creator, John Scaramucci, will guide members through a quizzical journey involving several stages of bird-centric trivia. This will feature individual game play, an honor system of score keeping (Just like birding). Players will follow along with the PowerPoint presentation, recording answers on a checklist provided by the host and earn points for correct answers. Birders of all skill levels are encouraged to come and have a lot of fun.
